Viva la Violin

I am now a violin teacher. Okay, I'm not actually a violin teacher. As of two weeks ago I didn't even know how to hold a violin. I am, however, a substitue violin teacher. It started out as a one day gig, but has extended into a 14 day job. At the beginning of this adventure, I relied more on the "think method" found in the Music Man, but with a couple of crash course lessons from a friend in our ward and the other violin teachers on the music team, I've been getting a lot better. I now know the D Major scale, how to play Hot Cross Buns and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, how to tune a violin, as well as several finger poisitions. In fact, I think I now know more about the violin than I ever learned about the trumpet when I played it in elementary school. In Lemony Snicket's book, The Austere Academy, one of the characters states, "There are, in fact, few worse sounds than that of someone who can't play the violin but insists on doing so anyway." I used to agree with that statement, but now that I've been that person that can't but insists, I don't think it's so bad after all.

  1. I love the Lemony Snicket quote, the series always makes me laugh! BTW, if you need any help with your new adventure, let me know---I have played the violin since I was 9. I'm jealous you get to be the music teacher!
