I have a new hobby: Participating in research studies.
Last week Christian and I went to the UC Davis Psych department to be part of a study on marriage relationships. We started by filling out a questionnaire with questions like, "How long have you been in this relationship?" "What are your feelings about this person?" "What was the first three things that first attracted you to this person?"
After the questionnaire came the fun part. We were hooked up to eight electronic sensors, a breathing monitor, and blood pressure wrist cuff and then asked to do five different tasks including looking at each other for 3 minutes, having a positive conversation for 3 minutes, talking about something disagreeable for 3 minutes, as well as a few others. We were then sent home with packets to fill out for the next little while about how we feel about one another on a day to day basis.
Compensation: $75 each. Not bad, huh?
We might be participating in another study (about adults reading) in the next couple weeks. I can't wait.
I've been doing those things too. They're kind of interesting and always have me wondering what exactly they're looking for.
