Nebraska

A couple of weeks ago we went to Nebraska to visit my grandparents. My parents and sister Carrie also went along. We were only there two days, but we had a really good time.

While we were there my uncle got Kate into a turkey calling contest. She got a wooden turkey call and then had to sit in the blind while the judges listened to her imitate a turkey. She did pretty well for a two-year-old! She was one of the first to go since she was the youngest. While the other kids were going we wandered around. I asked her if she wanted to go back and find out who won the contest to which she replied, "No, I won." That settled that.

While Kate was busy with the turkey call, Christian found a booth that had an air gun. He was happy to try out his skills.

James was very pleased to wander around with Aunt Carrie. Both kids had so much fun playing with her.

On our last night there we went out to my Grandpa's barn to have a BBQ. My kids were fascinated with all the farming equipment. OK, I'll be honest, I was just as fascinated as they were.

Kate enjoyed her food and especially enjoyed dessert. Aunt Carrie told her to eat as many cookies as she wanted, and boy did she!!

Before we left, we snapped a picture with 4 generations of women in my family.

When we left we forgot to fill up the tank. Christian was pretty worried because he wasn't sure where we were going to find a place to stop in the middle of Wyoming. Luckily we made it to this very small town just in time. We were happy to see they had a gas station pump. As Christian started to pay for the gas it came up with option 'pay inside or pay at the pump'. Christian laughed, looked around, and asked me, "Where is inside??" That pump was all there was.
Next to the gas station pump we found the town's bank ATM.
We had an excellent trip and it made me start to think that I could really enjoy living in a smaller city like Scottsbluff. Not as small as the middle-of-nowhere-Wyoming-with-one-gas-pump, though. Unfortunately I'm guessing that they don't need many tax attorneys there in smaller cities. Looks like I might be stuck as a big city girl.

  1. We've BEEN to that pay-at-the-pump!! That's where the piano was living! Okay, it wasn't living at the pay-at-the-pump, but right by there. In a tiny house. Where the people who had it were out of town. And had left the door unlocked. And instead of getting suspicious that strangers were taking a piano out of a house where the occupants were out of town, the neighbors helped us load it up.
