A few weeks ago we went to the Renaissance Festival. We went last year and loved it. This year was just as wonderful.
Kate was so excited when she saw all of the royalty waving to her as we entered. One of the princesses told her to look for a blue dragon inside the festival and Kate diligently looked the whole time, but never found it.
I love that all the rides here are man-powered (either pushed or turned by good old fashioned muscles).
We rode the world's largest rocking horse.
The kids rode these butterflies.
James spent quite a bit of time at 'Ye Olde Playground'.
We bought carrots to feed to the animals. The first time James attempted to feed a goat he got scared and hurled it into the goat's pen without the goat even noticing. He did a little better with Daddy's help feeding the horse.
We also watched a jolly good round of jousting. The kids were respectful enough to stand up for the Queen when she entered.
Many people choose to dress up for the festival, and it is so interesting to me what is considered 'Renaissance attire'. There are lots of people dressed as fairies or butterflies. There were a several people who wore clothes that would have been very fitting in Rome around the time of Julius Caesar. There were a few people who dressed as cave men. There were also several Zelda and other video game characters.
I love the Renaissance festival and I'm really glad we moved back just in time to attend once again.
Sounds like fun! Where are the jousting photos? Yuma tried to have a Renaissance Faire, and we were not terribly impressed with it. We also saw several people dressed as fairies. No cave men were sighted, however, in the Yuma group. There was a guy dressed as Jack Sparrow who did a one-man show. We wondered why he was there--is he a Renaissance man?
