We got this cute book at the library.
It's a sweet little story about a girl, her pet squash, and the circle of life. After many adventures together Sophie, the girl, leaves Bernice, the squash, outside only to be buried under the snow. Sophie is devastated, but in the spring she finds a sprout where her squash once was. The sprout grows two new squash. Sophie and her two new pet squash live happily ever after (at least until the next winter).
Well, we read this book about a zillion times. Then Kate begged and begged and begged for her own pet squash.
So, here she is, our very own Bernice.
I'm not exactly sure how long Bernice is going to stick around. It's been several weeks already.
But, I guess as it says in the book, "We did always want our daughter to love vegetables!" Hopefully we'll be able to eat her soon.
