We had a Happy 4th!

We woke the kids up early on the morning of the 4th (much to the chagrin of my nephew, Gabe, who would have prefered to sleep in a little longer). The kids got dressed in all their red, white, and blue, filled bags with candy, and were ready to go.

My sisters and cousins created this awesome float for the kids to ride in. The theme was 'America is Sweet'. Pretty cute, huh?

The parade was a huge success, until James and Betsy discovered that throwing candy meant there was less candy to eat. There may have been some tears involved.

In the 12 hours we were all together (we arrived late on the 3rd, Christian left the afternoon of the 4th, and my sister and her family left on the 5th) we did manage to get one picture with all 12 of us....with almost everyone looking in the same direction.

I got a few other pictures as well. This one is my favorite.

After the parade we had breakfast at Holladay City Hall. Betsy was cartwheeling all over the lawn. Kate, not to be left behind, asked Betsy to teach her how to cartwheel. Betsy was lifting Kate up in the air , trying to turn her upside down to get her to flip over. It was all pretty funny to watch!

After the parade we headed to the back yard for water-balloon and hose fights. The cousins really enjoyed each others company.

Oh. And we ate lots of popsicles. Lots and lots of popsicles.

We all went in to nap, and I found this sweet occurrence when I walked in the bedroom.

We finished off the night with fireworks and more popsicles.

The Holladay fireworks didn't start until 10:10, but my kids started getting tired about 8:30. I put them to bed and tried to wake them up again around 9:30, but neither budged. So, I left my dad with the kids and went to join my mom, sister, and cousins at Holladay City Hall for the fireworks show (it's only a 5 minute walk from my parents' house). I also caught the last little bit of the Peter Breinholt concert. It was a lovely day, and I sure am proud to be and American.
