Not a Pot Garden, a Potted Garden

I have this eternal quest to have a garden. We had an actual real garden when we lived in our little blue house in Sacramento, but since then we've only had plants in pots. Last year our plants were relatively successful until the blaring sun of our south-facing porch scorched most of them and a sneaky squirrel kept making off with our strawberries. This year I tried to find some more sun-friendly plants. It hasn't really mattered yet since all of May and the first bit of June we've had mostly clouds and rain.

I love how excited my kids are about the plants. This year, I had to do very little work getting the soil into the pots.

Also, between the rain and the kids, I've only had to water the plants a couple of times.
We've already harvested one red strawberry and the kids have snacked on several tiny lettuce leaves. We have an itty bitty tomato growing. Everything has at least come up, except for one stupid green pot. We originally put some lavender seed in.....but they didn't come up. Then we put it some basil seeds......but they didn't come up. Kate is convinced a wicked witch put a cure on the pot. Maybe she's right.
