My Sister is a Sister (Missionary, that is)

A few months ago, after some amazing mishaps my sister, Carrie, finally got her mission call. She was called the the Korea, Seoul West mission.

September 9, the night before Carrie left on her mission, she called me. I knew she was pretty worried because on the other end I heard, "Hello (lip quiver) . How's everything going? (double lip quiver)" I reflected back to July 3rd, 2006, the night before I left for my mission. I knew how she felt....on the brink of a complete life change. I ached to give her some reassurance. You know, some inspirational quote, an in depth analysis of all of her best qualities, SOMETHING to make her feel a little less anxious. In my infinite wisdom, I said,

"What do a grape and a chicken have in common? They're both purple, except the chicken."

I was a little disappointed with myself. If I was going to tell her a joke, at least it could have been a funny one. It's okay, though because it turns out she didn't even need any advice--she is doing beautifully as a missionary. Last week we got both a letter and an email from the missionary training center. She loves having a companion, she loves studying, and she really feels like a missionary.

So, in a second attempt:
Way to go, Carrie! I am so proud!
