The Perfect Halloween

Halloween is my favorite holiday. Or at least it's in a three way tie with Christmas and St. Patrick's Day.

Generally I'm a butterfly and flowers kind of girl. Most of my childhood fantasies included gaudy ballgowns that look more like a cotton candy machine explosion than clothing appropriate for any normal human being, a grand staircase, made of slick marble stairs, perfect for my three-foot gossamer train to flow down like a pink, sugary waterfall, and, of course, a delicate snowflake-shaped, diamond-encrusted tiara balanced daintily upon perfectly placed golden coils of hair. To this day, I have retained many of my childhood fondnesses. I still like pink, Little House on the Prairie, and having my hair done-up in a fancy do. However, one a year, with the changing of the leaves, my tastes also seem to change. I become enamored with vampires, witches, and ghosts; blood, guts, and gore.

For the last two October 31st's, I was residing in Brazil as a missionary. Unfortunately for those who are particularly fond of Halloween and just happen to be in Brazil during the end of the tenth month, Brazilians are not notorious for celebrating Halloween. For those who are not particularly fond of Halloween, this is not unfortunate at all. But, as I fall in the first category of people, I found myself filling my haunted holiday-void with carved oranges and a a costume consisting of a nametag switch.

As you may have been thinking when you started reading this blog, September may be a little early to start thinking about Halloween, but after two spookless years, my Halloween this year will not be disapointing. I'm going to Disneyland with my sister, her husband, my nephew, and mom!! That's right, Disneyland! If the Haunted Mansion in any indication, I imagine Disney will be the perfect place to pass Halloween.

So, in Honor of the Perfect Halloween, I'm going to give you a few reccomendations to get in the Halloween Spirit:

Children's Book Reccomendation:
The Widow's Broom By Chris Van Allsburg
A delightful tale about a woman who happens upon a witch's broom.

Website Reccomendation:
Haunted Mansion facts

Did you know that the ghosts that dance on the floor are reflections of actual animatronic people? There are plently of other interesting facts!

Movie Recomendation:

Short Film:

A short animated film about a woman who has inadvertantly sold her soul to the devil when she purchases a new washing machine.

Sound Track: Sweeney Todd- A murderous barber is after revenge while his accomplice bakes his victims into pies. Take your pick, Patti LaPone, Angela Lansbury, or Helena Bonham Carter

Candy Reccomendation: -Pumpkin and Spice Hershey's Kisses. They taste different than any chocolate I've ever had! I think they're great!
-Halloween Peanutbutter M&M's. They come in a blend of orange, black, purple and green. By the way, how did purple become a Halloween
color?
