One Year!

HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO US!

The longest recorded marriage (according to wikipedia.....) was between Philipose Thomas (100 years old at the time) and Sosamma (99 and six months at the time) from Kerala, India. They were married on February 17th, 1919. They were married for 86 years and 4 months! Maybe if Christian and I keep taking our vitamins, we'll make it another 85 years together. One day while browsing the Internet I found this table of 'approved' anniversary gifts. It's pretty interesting and includes:

1st Year: Paper

2nd Year: Cotton

3rd Year: Leather

4th Year: Fruit/Flowers

5th Year: Wood

10th Year: Tin/Aluminum

15th Year: Crystal

20th Year: China

25th Year: Silver

35th Year: Coral

45th Year: Sapphire

50th Year: Gold

60th Year: Diamond

Unfortunately I did not find this list in time to give my husband the year-appropriate gift (a paper cup? paper lantern?), however it has given me a lot to look forward to, like maybe a basket of kiwi come year 4.

Robert C. Dodds (former official of the National Council of Churches and also a psychologist and marriage counselor) once said,

"The goal in marriage is not to think alike, but to think together."

I am so grateful to be married to Christian. He's peanutbutter and I'm jelly and I'm so glad that we're together! This has been the best year of my life. I can't wait to see what the future holds.

  1. Jarrett and I actually followed that list the first 2 years. I gave him a card game and he gave me a paper cutter. Cotton is a little easier as clothes are made of cotton. We deviated when it came to leather

    Congrats on 1 year.

  2. I wish I would have known about the list sooner, I've been doing it all wrong! Maybe Steve will get some new leather church shoes next year...

  4. Your list skips year 6, so now I don't even know what to get Brad next month. I guess I'll have to do some research of my own...

But happy anniversary, happy birthday, and get posting about your new happy news!
