Give a Day

The new Disney program 'Give a Day, Get a Day' was sounding great in theory until I looked on the website to see the possible options. They looked more or less like this:

0 Volunteers needed
0 Volunteers needed
0 Volunteers needed
0 Volunteers needed
0 Volunteers needed
0 Volunteers needed

There were a couple of options still available. For example, I could volunteer at a low-cost vet clinic clipping animal nails and checking for ear mites. If I was a breast cancer survivor I could write an inspirational testimonial or volunteer at an event. Well, I definitely don't have breast cancer and my ear-mite checking/nail clipping days ended when I moved away from Salt Lake. I was really starting to loose hope when I stumbled upon this option.

"This is a great way to use up your scraps and stash of fabric! Old sheets, torn jeans, they all make good blankets! We call them binkies. Binky Patrols mission is to make blankets and give them away to children and teens in need of comfort. Those who are ill, abused, in foster care of experiencing trauma of any kind may receive a binky. We don't have any set patterns. Just so the fabrics can be washed and dried without special care. Double check for PINS. Samples can be seen here: http://www.binkypatrol.org/article.cfm?id=439 You need to be able to sew or make tie fleece blankets to take part in this opportunity! Sew by hand, sew by machine, whichever you prefer. Quilting is very welcomed. Basic strip pieced quilts that can be done in less than a day, regardless of how elaborate, qualify each on that measures approximately 4' x 5'. This is the only verification we are doing for this project, if you are coming to us through the Disney Promotion. However, you can choose the date that you will complete your project. Thanks for helping give the gift of comfort and warmth to kids in need!"

Sweet! I can make a blanket for a free day of Disney magic. In fact, I think I'll make two (one for Christian, too.)

  1. Awesome! I will for sure check this out. I went on the site, and like you, found that no volunteers were needed for everything near that I could do! I like the blanket idea. Thanks for posting this! Oh, and I also saw on another blog that you can use your "give a day" pass to get a day, or get some special collectors' pin, or trade it in for a FastPass for your group to use all day. So, I could get one and Trent could get one and we'd have 2 days of FastPasses. I want to check that out further too, but I think it's a cool idea! :)
