Martin Luther

I Know it's Martin Luther King Day, but this weekend we watched the movie Luther. It left me with a lot to think about.
In one scene in the movie, the 'Father' turns to Martin and asks, "Have you ever read the New Testament?" When he responded, "No." I was very surprised. He was a monk after all. Sometimes I forget that unlike in the Marriott Hotel, in the dark ages there wasn't a Bible in every dresser drawer. At that time, scriptures were only accessible to a few privileged people. Luther worked very hard to translate the Bible into the language of his people (German). He thought it was important for all people to be able to read the words of God.
I am grateful to have a Bible that I can touch and read in my own language.
I am grateful for Luther and other reformers for the courage they had and the changes they made.

  1. I enjoyed that movie as well and I live near the city where much of his life took place--Wittenberg.
