I could write about how excited I am to have a baby on Friday. I could write about how Kate keeps walking around the house holding her dolls saying, "Bobby, bobby, bobby, bobby-wobby, bobby." I could write about how the attempt to flip the baby was pretty painful and unsuccessful, and that I was still glad we tried. I could write about how I keep peaking into the cute drawer full of adorable little boy clothes. However, you're about to get a whole lot of posts about baby, so I think I'll stick to another topic, like:
Mostly because I'm experiencing withdrawals. Christian and I went to Disneyland for our honeymoon, our 1st anniversary, and our 2nd anniversary. That's three March Disney trips in a row! Unfortunately, I don't think we're going to make it this year for our anniversary because of the previously mentioned addition that is on his way. So instead of actually going to Disneyland, I'll do something much less fun (and less expensive) and share with you a list of things you many not have known about Disneyland.
1. When you enter Star Tours there's a voice that comes on the loudspeaker that asks for and "Egroeg Sacul" to come to the booth. That's George Lucas spelled backward.
2. When it opened in 1967, the ride Pirates of the Caribbean used real human skeletons as props because the imagineering team felt the faux skeletons of the period were just too unconvincing. The real human remains were obtained from the UCLA Medical Center.
3. Tomorrowland was originally meant to represent the futuristic year of 1986, when Halley's comet was due to make its next appearance.
4. In the early days, Walt had an agreement with the city of Anaheim that no outside buildings could be tall enough to be visible from within the park.
5. Originally, Mr. Toad did not appear in Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, nor did Peter Pan or Snow White feature in their own rides. Disney's idea was that riders would view the attraction from the lead character's point of view. Hardly anyone understood the concept, and now each character makes a brief appearance.
6. Walt wanted to populate the Jungle Cruise with live animals, but zoologists convinced him they'd be asleep during most park hours. In the early days, though, live alligators were kept in a pen near the turnstiles; they occasionally escaped into the lagoon.
7. At least 3 babies have been born at Disneyland (unfortunately, ours won't be one of them).
8. On opening day, Walk had his gardeners cover bare patches of dirt by replanting weeds from the parking lot and labeling them with long, horticultural-sounding names.
9. The spooky voice that narrates the Haunted Mansion ride is that of actor Paul Frees, also known as the Pillsbury Doughboy.
10. Ron Ziegler, Richard Nixon's press secretary during the Watergate scandal, once worked as a skipper on the Jungle Cruise ride.
Did I ever tell you that I ran into your sister at Disneyland a couple of years ago? We both just kind of looked at each other hesitantly and waved. What a small world.
ReplyDeleteWe're sad you never made it down for another Disney trip, but hopefully another time! Good luck with Baby Boy Kelsey today!!!
ReplyDeleteDasha! I totally remember that day! It actually took me a second for everything to process, and I tried to turn around to *really* wave but by then you had melted away into Disneyland.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I miss Disneyland too. It's officially been six months since our passes expired, and even though we made it to Disneyland about 20 times in two years, I'm still going through withdrawals.
