A 14er is a mountain that is higher than 14,000 feet above sea level. Today we went to the top of our first one. We went to Mount Evans, the 36th highest summit in the U.S. We just kept going up and up and up and up. It was amazing! I'm glad my friend Emily warned me it was going to be cold. I was glad to have a jacket for everyone.

Kate loved her hiking backpack, even though it might not look like it in this picture.
I liked this cheery sign warning of altitude sickness, lightning strikes, and hypothermia.
Speaking of lightning strikes, I'm glad we left when we did, because as we were leaving, this is what the sky looked like. About 20 minutes later it was raining.
So, with a total of 54 14er in Colorado, we now only have 53 left to go.
Way to go! Did you have any signs of altitude sickness? Kevin got sick once around 11,000 ft. in the Henry Mountains. I don't know if I've ever climbed that high...maybe on Mt. Timpanogos.
