Happy Birthday to My Monster

We had a birthday party for our sweet little James boy today. Since he is my little monster, it was a monster theme. Here are some of the highlights. There are probably too many pictures here, but hey, you only turn one once.

Balloons:It took me about 45 minutes of breath to get these puppies all blown up. When James got up this morning we went right downstairs. He saw all the balloons and his eyes lit up. He started bouncing and clapping his hands. He crawled right under them, reached up his arms, realized he couldn't touch them, and started to sob. Poor guy. I ended up blowing up some more and hanging them off the stairs so that he could play with them.

Party Hats:
For some reason, Kate really wanted to have party hats. She kept asking for them, so I found some at target and we subjected all the babies to wearing one. If you look at the little boy on the far right of this picture, you can see the tears welling up in his eyes. Seconds after I took this picture, he let us know exactly what he thought of birthday hats. The rest of the babies agreed.

Kate and her friend Ellie were much bigger fans of the hats. Kate was glad to have someone with more mature tastes in party apparel to appreciate her hats. That being said, she only wore hers for about four minutes.

Cupcakes:

James liked his cupcake once he actually tasted his cupcake. It took him about a minute and a half of staring at it first, but then he finally dove in.

Snacks:

I tried to pick out some of James' favorite foods like grapes, goldfish crackers, and string cheese.James was apparently very excited about the snacks, because he grabbed the bowl of goldfish crackers and dumped them on the floor. A few seconds later all the kids headed over to benefit from the fish accident and ate most of them before they got cleaned up.

A Ball-pit:
The best part of the party (at least from the kids' point of view) was the ball-pit. We filled up the pack-and-play with three bags of balls. It was a big hit.

Monsters:
Planning a one-year-old birthday party all the sudden got way easier now that I've been introduced to Pinterest. I just had to type in 'monster birthday' and it came up with hundreds of ideas. Here are just a couple.

Monster water.

Felt Monsters.
A monster book that everyone signed.
Finally, here's a video of James and his cupcake. Enjoy!

I now have a one-year-old and a two-year-old. I am so glad that I have them both. They are really great kids and they make me smile every day. James, you are such a sweet little guy. I love your laugh and I love that you are my son. Happy birthday!
