Saturday morning we packed up the kids in the car and started out on a family outing. The plan was to go to the Chalk Festival. It was being held in a cute outdoor mall. We pulled into a parking spot and started to unload. As I got James out of the car, I spotted some little girl dresses on sale at the store in front of us. I headed inside. A minute or two later, Christian and Kate followed. Kate was bouncing around, happy to be at the Chalk Festival and to have her Daddy to play with. Christian, trying to calm her down a little, told her to 'go get Mommy'. She ran over, but on the way slipped and fell, landing with her forehead right in the middle of a portable clothes rack, right on a big bolt. Right away blood started to gush. Christian swooped her up and took her to the car so that she would be in a nice quiet place to calm down. I went to find someone to help. I finally found a security guard and he came over to have a look. Christian had gone through about half a bag of wet wipes wiping up blood. Because he had been putting pressure on it, the bleeding had slowed down significantly. The security guy gave it a look and told us to take her to a doctor to be sure that she didn't have a concussion. The is what she looked like in the car ride over.
Sorry it's blurry. I wasn't exactly on my A game. Christian dropped me off at home. James and I waited patiently and about an hour later, she came home looking like this.
Once she was bandaged and had a clean shirt, she felt much better. The blood on her shirt bugged her almost as much as the wound. Christian told me that at the Dr.'s office she kept saying, "Daddy, I'm sorry I got your shirt dirty. I just wanted to give Mommy a hug." This is what his shirt looked like.
Once home, Kate came up with a pretty good plan for the rest of the day. She wanted to go to special lunch at Noodles with just Daddy, then watch a movie with Daddy, and then go back to the Chalk Festival. All of her requests were granted. Aside from the earlier trauma, it turned out to be a pretty good day for Kate. As we pulled up to the parking lot at the Chalk Festival Kate said, "Let's try again." So we did. We even went back to the store and bought her three new dresses that were on sale.
Here's some of the art from the festival.
This was by far the cutest artist there.
Wow, what an eventful day! And I like your clever title . . .
ReplyDeleteOUCH! Hopefully it won't scar her pretty little face. I'm glad it turned out well in the end.
