I love fall. It's my favorite season. There are always so many fun things to do and the weather really can't be beat! I feel like September went by faster than any month this year. Then I started to look back at everything we did, and I see why. We've been pretty busy the last couple weeks!
First of all, the kids started gymnastics. It's great because Kate goes to the preschool class while James and I do the parent/tot class. Both kids absolutely love gymnastics and look forward to it every week. Here's a picture of Kate's class. You probably can't see her, but she's in the blue shirt and pink pants walking across the balance beam. I obviously need to take some better pictures of gymnastics.
Kate also started 'school' at the beginning of the month. One of my friends came up with this idea, and I love it. We rotate homes and each take a turn teaching the lessons. It's twice a week for two hours. It's way cheaper that preschool and the kids have so much fun. James really enjoys the time alone when it's not my day to teach, and he really likes playing with the big kids when it's at our house, so really he wins either way. Here's Kate on her first day of school (do you love the band-aid across her eye brows?).
With October coming quickly I've been talking to the kids about what they want to be for Halloween. A neighbor gave us this pumpkin costume for James. He was so excited. He started running around the house carrying the costume shouting, "Pupkin! Pupkin!". I put it on him and he liked it for about four minutes. As soon as he realized he couldn't reach his bellybutton, he started to cry. That was the end of the pumpkin idea. Now I think the plan is that he's going to be Elmo and Kate is going to be Abby Cadabby from Sesame Street. He like that idea so far as he is a BIG fan of anything with Elmo on it.
This is as far as I have gotten on the Abby Cadabby costume. We'll see how it turns out.
We got a bunch of apples from a friend's apple tree. I lugged home a big bucket, totally excited that I was going to make home made applesauce. The kids were also thrilled about the idea and helped me wash and peel the apples. I cooked the applesauce in the crock pot and it made our house smell amazing. I was so excited when it was done and immediately served some up for the kids. Apparently warm applesauce is not their thing. Both refused to eat it. Christian also refused. I, however, thought it was delicious. Hmmf.
Denver has had tons of fun things going on the past month. We went to the Summerset Festival where they had 10 or so hot air balloons. It was really cool (or should I say hot?) to watch them being filled up.
We also went to the corn maze. We had free tickets because of our Botanic Garden membership. Both Kate and James were excitedly pointing out ears of corn when we started the maze and when we neared the end of the maze, an hour or so later. Somehow the novelty never wore off. Kate was in charge of leading the was (we told her to always go to the right) and she did a pretty good job!
Finally, now that it's fall and school is back in session, I've taken up the hobby of criticizing school information boards. Do you think that maybe they meant parent coffee? Just a question.
I hope you're all enjoying fall just as much as we are! I can't wait to see what October holds for us.
James is so cute in the Pumpkin costume!
ReplyDeleteYou're lucky you have the seasons to enjoy. Fall here means it's about 5-10 degrees cooler and no longer gets up to 115 in the afternoons.
