Today we went on a tour of the Hammond Candy Factory with our church play group. It was really fun to watch them mix, pull, stretch, cut, and shape candy canes, cover marshmallows with chocolate, and package it all up to get shipped around the world. I half expected an Oompa Loompa to jump out of the back door, but alas, that didn't happen.
At the end of the tour, everyone got a free candy cane. I made the kids wait until they got to the car to eat theirs. Kate daintily licked and sucked hers. She even kept the wrapper on the bottom so that she wouldn't get her hands dirty.
James, on the other hand, took a much different approach. Observe.
Before he got too far into his candy cane, he crashed into a sticky, sugary coma.
Later in the evening, Kate had the idea to play play-dough candy factory. She decided she was in charge of making candy canes.
She also decided James and I were in charge of lollipops, but he got frustrated because his kept breaking.
All in all, it was a pretty sweet day.
