About a month ago, Kate decided she wanted to have a Mary Poppins birthday.
Her guest list included 3 kids her age and 3 babies/toddlers. It was so important that the younger ones came to her party that she asked if we could have kids and moms (instead of just kids) so that the little ones could come. Here are the little girls in their hats.
One of the activities was to make kites.
We then had a tuppence hunt and the kids got to pick if they wanted to invest their tuppence in the bank or use it to buy penguin crackers to feed the birds.Kate was the only one who wanted to invest in the bank, but quickly changed her mind when she realized that meant she didn't get a snack. Maybe this wasn't the best lesson to teach my kids (investing has no immediate rewards), but that's ok.
After the pinata (which I didn't take a picture of) we had umbrella/kite cupcakes. I'm just glad she avoided lighting her hair on fire, because it was a close call. Note to self: pull her hair back next time.
We finished off the party with a spoonful of sugar. Here's a picture of Kate making them the day before.
About 15 minutes before everyone went home, Kate started to cry. She continued for about an hour after they left. She told me, "Mom, I think I had too much birthday." Oh man. I guess it was her party, she gets to cry if she wants to.

Great party! I am sad to read that Kate was sad for another hour after we left! She knows how to party hard!
