Spooky Weekend

Here it is: Kate's completed Halloween costume.

She really wanted to be Squirt, the little turtle from Finding Nemo. She also requested a Finding Nemo bag. I'm pretty happy with the way it all turned out. My favorite part is the big poofy shell on the back.

This weekend Kate got a couple of opportunities to show off her costume. First we went to 'Boo at the Zoo' with some friends. The kids' friend Kaylee and her parents dressed up as Little Red, Grandma, and the Big Bad Wolf. They looked great! I know James looks a little unimpressed in this picture. We got going a little earlier than usual and he kept yawning while we were waiting in line.

The yawns quickly went away once we got in the zoo and started rounding up some treats. James had eaten a bag of animal crackers and a bag a Swedish Fish within the first 10 minutes.

At one stop there was a bowl that had dum-dums and a bunch of full sized candy bars. Both of my kids took a dum-dum. Personally, I would have gone for the chocolate. Here they are proudly showing off their lollipops. If they had only known what they had passed up, I'm not sure they would be smiling.

We did take some time to see the animals as well. Here's my little turtle checking out the cape buffalo.
After 'Boo at the Zoo' we went home for a quick nap before we were on to our next event, the Halloween party at the church.

The kids had so much fun.

There were lots of games.

There were pictures to color.

And there were friends to play with. Kate decided to hang out with Blake instead of go in the inflatable haunted house with James and me. She actually did make it into the entrance of the haunted house before she turned around in tears and left. James thought it was funny, except for the skeleton that was 'a little scary'.

After the party, I decided to take the kids to the park so they could burn off some sugar. Lucky for us, there was a big pile of leaves all raked up and ready to jump in.

On Sunday we carved pumpkins with the kids. Christian and James made the one on the left and Kate and I made the one of the right. Kate requested 18 circle teeth. I did the best I could.
