Giving Thanks

The day before Thanksgiving the kids had turkey day at gymnastics. They both got a chance to wear a turkey hat. As soon as they put it on, they came dashing over to the window so that I could take a picture of them.

After gymnastics, the kids helped me make pie. This one was a strawberry pie (for those of us who are dairy free), but we also made pumpkin pie and pumpkin cheesecake.

James decided the best way to help was to clean off the spatula for me.

Kate decided to actually wash the dishes. I found that slightly more helpful.

All month, we worked on a grateful tree. We added different leaves with things we were thankful for. By Thanksgiving it was almost full.

We also decorated the porch with gourds. The squirrels took it as an opportunity to have their own thanksgiving feast.

Thanksgiving Day Christian played football with the guys from the ward. Then he came home and took the kids to the museum while I cooked. He came home just in time to carve the turkey.

Our guests included 5 missionaries and our good friend Andrea. It was fun to have them over.

After dinner we played a minute-to-win-it style game.

The Elders tried to resist playing with the kids' toys, but they couldn't.

The kids split the wishbone. Kate won.....for the second year in a row. But we told James that he got a wish too. He wished he could go into outer space. Then he said, "Is it working? Is my wish coming true right now?"

At the end of the night, as I was cleaning up, I noticed this set up and it made me laugh. Looks pretty historically accurate, huh?
