March was
kind of a crazy month. Christian went to Miami for a couple of days.
After he came back he started working every day from 7 am to 10 pm.
including Saturdays and Sundays. Most days the kids didn't see him.
There were days even I didn't see him! He started to go a little crazy.
He would shout out in his sleep, "Get me the files!". It's funny now,
but it wasn't at the time. In April his project finally finished. Then
after a quick trip to Minneapolis,we started seeing a lot more of him.
It was so nice to have him back home (even though his first day back he
had food poisoning).
Here are some random pictures from March.
The kids became very interested in cooking.

James and I were
headed to the Science museum while Kate was at school. We hit a pot hole
and instantly got a flat tire. I pulled of to the side of the road and
called roadside assistance. They said it would be a 120 minute wait. I
wasn't going to last 120 minutes with James in the car, so I decided to
Google a nearby tire shop. There was one a block away, so we headed
over. It took some effort (it is not easy to drive with a flat tire in
snow!). James and I jumped out of the car and go investigate the shop,
which turns out used to be a tire shop, but is now a boat shop. At that
point the car was so stuck in the snow there as no way I was going
anywhere else. Luckily, this very very very nice man changed my tire for
me. I was extremely grateful. We headed over to the place I usually go
when we have tire issues (which happens to be a lot in this car!) and
they took a look at it. The guy said, "I don't see a puncture anywhere.
I'm not sure how it went flat. However, since you drove on it, you ended
up shredding the inside of it." Of course. So on went the third new
tire in less than two years.
The
kids moved up in their gymnastic classes. James is now in the 4-5 year
old preschool class and Kate is in the beginner girls' class. Their very
last day in the old class it was super hero/princess day. I thought
this line-up of superheros was pretty cute!
Kate
wanted to bring roses for her teacher Rosie. She had Rosie as a teacher
for 2 and a half years straight as was a little sad to tell her
goodbye.
As
part of my calling in the primary presidency I do a lot with cub
scouts. Usually it just means lots of meetings, but for the Blue and
Gold dinner the kids got to come with me to a wild-west dinner. They had
so much fun! Our ward/wards (we have a combined primary) was in charge
of the photo booth. Luckily we had a cowboy we could provide!
Christian
missed out on a lot of basketball because of all his work, but he was
able to make it to a couple league games. We came to cheer for one of
them. It was fun to see Christian play. My favorite part of the game
was when someone lost a contact and everyone dropped to the floor. I
wasn't really sure what was going on and the girl sitting next to me
thought it was an impromptu pushup contest. The guy did eventually find his contact.....in his eye.
The
kids were pretty big fans of St. Patrick's day. Kate's school had been
attacked by leprechauns and James thought it was hilarious to walk
through and see all the silly stuff they had done.
A new exhibit opened at the Science museum all about Mythic Creatures. Kind of ironic, but we enjoyed it.
Kate tried her best to find a way to get a little more personal space.
We
took at trip to the Denver Mint. It was amazing and the kids love it
and this was the only picture I took. We had to go through some pretty
serious security to get in there!
Remember
how I mentioned that Kate moved up to the beginner girls gymnastics
class? Well, I am apparently as sucker for peer pressure. I was watching
her class on the first day and quickly realized that she was the only
kid in leggings and a t-shirt. By the end of class, I took Kate to the
overpriced Leotard store in the lobby of the gymnastics place and bought
her an overly expensive leotard. She didn't even ask, I just did it.
I
volunteered to be in charge of the ward Easter egg hunt. It wasn't too
much work, just collecting eggs from everyone and then delivering them
to the family with 4 teenagers who were kind enough to hide them. There
ended up being hundreds of eggs! It was great. The kids loved it!!!
On
the night before my birthday at about 11 pm James started crying. Then
he cried ALL. NIGHT. LONG. It was a seriously long night!! His kept
saying he ear hurt. I gave him Tylenol, tried a heat pack, rubbed his
back, everything I could think of. Nothing stopped the crying. Finally at 6 am I packed him
into the car and took him to insta-care since it was Sunday and the Dr.
office was closed. Once we pulled up to the parking lot, James started
to perk up a whole bunch. When they asked him at the front desk which
ear hurt, he said, "I think it's this one, I'm not sure". Fortunately we
were the first people there and we didn't have to wait long at all. The
doctor took a quick look and said, "Well, I guess it's kind of red." Oh
my. That boy is lucky I love him. We came home and Christian was ready
to head off to work. I thought James would fall right to sleep, but
instead he bounced off the walls until lunch time and then FINALLY took a
nap.
My
sweet friend Andrea was planning on having me over for birthday dinner
that night since she knew Christian was going to be at work. When I let
her know that we weren't coming to church because James was sick she
said, "Don't worry about it! Still come over for dinner!!" I'm so glad
she did! It would have been a lonely birthday without her.
The
next day James was feeling much better. We had signed up to feed the
missionaries. Since Christian was at work, my friend Flora and her
husband came to have dinner with us. My friend Dana had suggested we
have an Easter egg hunt with the missionaries. Kate loved the idea. She
filled and hid all the eggs. When she was done she said, "It's hard work
being the Easter Bunny! I don't want to have that job again."
The missionaries were kind enough to share the candy with the kids.
