El Festival de los Animales

A week ago the zoo was holding 'El Festival de los Animales' (Animal Festival). The kids and I packed a picnic lunch and spent several hours there. They had all sorts of fun things to do including games, crafts, prizes, free face painting, and lots of different cultural performances.

Kate was determined to get her face painted. We waited in line for a solid thirty minutes and surprisingly neither kid complained. There was only one moment where James lost it. He was eating a fruit leather and a bee decided it would make a tasty treat and started flying around James. It bothered him, but he did his best to shew it away. The bee wouldn't give in, however, and flew INTO James' ear.......all the way down to the wax. I have never heard James scream so loud! Fortunately, the bee lost interest once it had a taste of ear wax and buzzed off. James was a little shaken up, but after a few snuggles and he was just as happy as ever. He was not interested in getting his face painted though. Kate chose to be painted like a rainbow tiger and later told me it was worth the long wait.

My favorite performance was the mariachi band. I don't know what it is about mariachi, but I love it so much. Weird? I know. You'll be glad to know that I'm not the only one in my family who likes mariachi. James is apparently also a fan. He stood listening for a few songs and then danced all over the place.

I love Denver because I feel like there is something fun to do every week!
